Internship Opportunity Overview

United States Pretrial Services is a federal law enforcement agency under the direction of United States Federal Courts. United States Pretrial Services Officers conduct background investigations of individuals charged with  violations of federal criminal statutes.  U.S. Pretrial Services Officers also prepare written reports for bail, supervise defendants released from custody and electronically monitor defendants placed on Global Positioning (G.P.S.) Monitoring.

Applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a Legal resident of the United States
  • Have no criminal record
  • Not have history of drug or alcohol addiction
  • Be professional, ethical, reliable, self-motivated, and enthusiastic
  • Pass a background investigation
  • Be able to dedicate 15-20 hours per week for 4 months
  • Possess sound oral and written communication skills

Interns will be trained to:
Assist Officers in maintaining a case load; Read and understand court documents; Attend court hearings and understand courtroom etiquette; Interpret criminal records; Complete bail reports; Monitor defendant’s released from custody; Complete other special projects.
